On June 25, investment manager VanEck filed form 8-A with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for its Ethereum spot exchange-traded fund (ETF). This brings the ETF one step closer to live trading.

The updated filing led senior Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas to predict that spot Ethereum ETFs could begin trading as soon as July 2, 2024. Balchunas explained that his prediction was supported by VanEck's 8-A filing for the Bitcoin ETF 7 days ago.

In early June, a senior Bloomberg analyst predicted an early ETF launch window in July, based on SEC staff not making any significant comments on ETF applicants' S-1 filings. The lack of comment suggests the regulator has not identified major problems with ETF offerings, potentially speeding up the listing process.

However, SEC Chairman Gary Gensler expressed the opposite sentiment and claimed that Ethereum ETFs listing on exchanges could take months and may not happen until September 2024. Gensler put the onus on applicants for Ethereum ETF listings, claiming that the process is entirely dependent on response times.
