Cathie Wood, CEO of U.S. investment firm Ark Invest, said she plans to vote for Republican candidate and former U.S. President Donald Trump in this year's presidential election.

“Like I told my kids ... like I told them, ‘Listen, I’m going to vote for the person who’s going to do the best for our economy.’ I’m a voter when it comes to the economy,” Wood said at a conference in Las Vegas over the weekend, which was organized by financial content creator Kevin Pavlas. “On that basis, it’s Trump.”

Wood later cited economist Arthur Laffer, who served as an economic adviser to Trump's 2016 campaign, in saying that before the pandemic, the first three years of the Trump administration were "the best in American economic history."

The Ark Invest CEO has long been a supporter of cryptocurrencies, an industry that Trump has also recently expressed strong support for.

Ark Invest announced its Ark Web x.0 ETF in 2015 as the first ETF to invest in Bitcoin. Since then, the company has expanded its investments by buying shares in crypto-related companies such as Coinbase.

Meanwhile, Trump has been accepting cryptocurrency donations since last month and giving speeches advocating for cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens, and bitcoin mining. Last week, Gemini founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss donated $2 million worth of bitcoin to the Trump campaign.

Earlier this month, The Block reported that President Joe Biden’s campaign was also in discussions with cryptocurrency industry players about accepting cryptocurrency donations through Coinbase Commerce.

The US televised presidential debate between Biden and Trump is scheduled to be broadcast live on June 27.
