A Bitcoin developer known for exploiting a bug in the Lightning Network is working on a new Layer 2 for Bitcoin, which aims to attract more decentralized finance cases. Burak, the creator of Lightning Network competitor Ark Protocol, has introduced Brollups. 🚀

Brollup is a layer 2 that proposes a rollup design built into Bitcoin, merging transactions without having to hard fork Bitcoin or issue a non-Bitcoin token. Brollups is in the "design phase" but a test launch could take place this year.

Brollups will support more than 90% of cases in DeFi at launch, Burak claims. Operators will manage Brollups, providing liquidity to the protocol and promoting the rollup state by linking Bitcoin transactions at “regular intervals.”

Transactions will be executed on the Bitcoin Virtual Machine. Burak has received a lot of praise in the Bitcoin community for developing a solution without having to hard fork Bitcoin or create a new token.
