On June 22, the popular cryptocurrency portfolio tracking platform reported a security breach that affected some iOS users. They received a scam notification asking them to log into their CoinStats AirScout wallet. This led them to a malicious website.

CoinStats reported that the hack targeted wallets created in their app. They quickly responded to the incident, temporarily closing the application to contain the violation. According to them, only 1.3% of all CoinStats wallets were attacked, which is 1,590 wallets.

CoinStats assured users that connected wallets and centralized exchanges (CEX) were not affected. They provided a link to a list of affected wallets so users can check if their wallets have been compromised. However, this list may be updated as the investigation progresses.

The CoinStats post states: “If your wallet address is on this vulnerable list, please immediately transfer your funds using your exported private key (if you exported previously).”

Despite CoinStats' assurances, some Reddit and X users reported that their external wallets, such as Trust Wallet and Coinbase Wallet, were affected.

One Reddit user under the pseudonym Sony Erickson wrote: “My Ethereum wallet in Trust disappeared because it was connected to CoinStats. My Trust wallet was connected to the CoinStats app and this morning I woke up to a notification that all of my Ethereum had been sent to an address I did not authorize. I'm guessing this has to do with what's going on inside CoinStats right now. Does anyone have the same situation? Can I get my money back?

Also, a recent report revealed that one of the most affected victims is a wallet belonging to Blurr.eth. The hacker stole about $8.76 million worth of 3657 Maker (MKR) from the wallet and sold it on the network for 2482 Ethereum ($ETH

).

The incident highlights ongoing vulnerabilities in the crypto industry. According to a report from blockchain security company PeckShield, there were approximately 30 cryptocurrency hacking incidents reported in May 2024. These collective incidents resulted in losses of $574.6 million and profits of $385 million for the hackers. The report also states that this figure has increased by approximately 666% compared to April 2024.
