X platform user @Easy17182589 exposed the internal cheating incident of the ZKSync project. It is said that the user discovered the internal problems of ZKSync as early as September last year and continued to conduct in-depth follow-up investigations. After detailed data collection and analysis, the user published the evidence on GitHub and Mirror, which attracted widespread attention.

The data reportedly includes on-chain hashes, related addresses, and ZKSync team members’ abuse of privileges to gain illegal benefits. It is said that these insiders successfully obtained nearly 50 million ZK tokens through privileged access. These actions have seriously damaged the credibility of the project and affected the protection of users’ interests.

The user detailed in the public document how the conditions for obtaining the NFT (LIBERTAS OMNIBUS) officially issued by ZKSync were manipulated by insiders. Originally, the conditions for obtaining these NFTs were users who interacted with more than 100 ZKSync NFT collections before July 12 last year. However, insiders used contract permissions to directly mint NFTs to their own addresses, which did not comply with the officially announced rules.

In addition, the user further pointed out that there is a group of addresses that added themselves to the whitelist through contract permissions, and they can directly mint NFTs even if they do not meet the minting conditions. These minted NFTs were later sold on Element, making a lot of profit.

Another group of addresses used the contract permissions to batch-mint and safe-mint NFTs by the contract founder address, generating a large number of NFTs and distributing them to their own multiple addresses. After these addresses minted NFTs, 65 addresses sold them on Element, of which 22 addresses received a total of 412,738 ZK airdrops.

According to statistics, the creator of the NFT contract minted a large number of LIBERTAS OMNIBUS NFTs to 9,871 addresses through batchMint, of which 4,685 addresses received airdrops, totaling 43 million ZK tokens. Shockingly, among the top 100,000 ZK addresses, 109 addresses participated in such illegal operations. This internal illegal means of obtaining tokens enables the team to bypass the waiting stage for unlocking and make profit operations in advance.

When exposing the scandal, the user said: "Based on the above evidence, it can be seen that there is corruption within the ZKSync project team. The sensation caused by this airdrop is mainly because its rules are opaque, and in order to cover up internal cheating addresses, the interests of many users have been harmed." He also mentioned that he had disclosed the improper behavior between former employee seb (head of DeFi ecology) and the Syncus DAO ecological project in December 2023, including that seb promised a large number of ecological airdrops but asked for part of the tokens to be returned to him personally.

The exposure of this series of scandals has undoubtedly dealt a severe blow to the reputation of the ZKSync project. The corruption and abuse of privilege by insiders not only harmed the interests of users, but also undermined the credibility of the entire blockchain industry.
