The report pointed out 785 cryptocurrency thefts, including 220 security breaches, 345 DeFi hacks, and 220 fraud schemes. The largest theft occurred in 2019, when $2.9 billion was stolen in connection with the PlusToken Ponzi scheme. Since then, cryptocurrency crime has continued to surge, with a record number of cryptocurrency thefts in 2023, with a total of 286 incidents worth more than $2.3 billion.
