In February of this year, Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, Altman and Brockman, accusing them of breach of contract and fiduciary duties. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in San Francisco, when the judge will consider whether the case should be dismissed at the request of the defendant. In March of this year, experts told CNBC that the legal basis of the case was problematic because the contract at the heart of the lawsuit was not a formal written agreement signed by all parties involved. Musk claimed that the early OpenAI team was developing general artificial intelligence (AGI) for the "benefit of mankind", but the project has been transformed into a for-profit entity controlled by major shareholder Microsoft.
