PANews reported on June 7 that according to The Block, Animoca Brands co-founder Yat Siu said that Hong Kong asset managers are studying the introduction of staking functions into Ethereum spot exchange-traded funds. HashKey and Bosera jointly manage two spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in Hong Kong and are currently developing a proposal to introduce Ethereum staking. Livio Weng, CEO of HashKey Exchange, said: "We have developed a plan to earn returns without increasing risks." He added that more details are under discussion and cannot be disclosed at present.

The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission has not yet commented on this. Spot cryptocurrency ETFs have performed relatively poorly in Hong Kong, and staking returns may become a competitive advantage for Hong Kong spot Ethereum ETFs over similar products in the United States. The US Securities and Futures Commission has stated that the staking function is not allowed for the time being. The Hong Kong government has realized this gap and is pushing for faster progress.
