Original title: "Review of the 20 winning projects of ETHShanghai2023 Hackathon"
Original source: Mask Network
ETHShanghai 2023 was initiated by Mask Network and is an event dedicated to promoting the Ethereum network and encouraging more builders to join in building the Ethereum and Web3 communities. This year's ETHShanghai is co-organized by core members such as Mask Network, Moonshot Commons, ChainIDE, and THUBA Tsinghua Blockchain Association.
The event brought together nearly 600 developers from around the world, especially from Asia. A total of 84 teams formed teams within two weeks, and their projects were created on Gitcoin's hackathon platform Buidlbox.io.
The main tracks of this event are divided into five themes: ETH Infra & Public Goods, Layer2 & On-Chain Gaming, Application, AI & Blockchain, and Developer Tools, covering many important areas of blockchain technology. The track setting aims to deepen the understanding and application of the Ethereum network, combined with the new technological trends that are taking place, to help promote the maturity and further development of the Web3 community.
In this hackathon, projects in the two tracks of AI & Blockchain and Layer2 & On-Chain Gaming are particularly eye-catching. The combination of AI technology and blockchain is gradually showing its potential and application value; on the other hand, On-Chain Gaming is a new application trend in the blockchain field this year, and related projects are also showing an active trend.
After fierce competition, 20 contestants finally won. They demonstrated outstanding technical strength and innovative ideas in their projects. We hope that these projects in each track will provide new thinking and inspiration for readers.

The winning projects are as follows:
Ethereum Infrastructure & Public Goods Main Track
1. IZAR
IZAR is a protocol that enables privacy-preserving interoperability between the Ethereum and Aleo ecosystems. IZAR is a pioneering privacy-preserving interoperability protocol that seamlessly connects the Ethereum and Aleo ecosystems. We provide comprehensive support for cross-chain communication of arbitrary messages between heterogeneous chains, open up liquidity between ecosystems, and use industry-leading zero-knowledge cryptography technology to achieve fully private cross-chain transactions. In addition, the protocol will also introduce a new governance model (1,000 decentralized validators) and zkSnark multi-signature verification to solve the current centralization problem of cross-link bridges and further improve the security and user trust of cross-link bridges.
2. Lumi Finance
Lumi Finance is an investment platform focused on ongoing wealth preservation. By using LUA as collateral, Lumi Finance offers loans with zero liquidation risk and negative interest rates, allowing borrowers to earn a yield on their debt. These loans have no liquidation risk because the total LUA debt will never exceed the floor price (guaranteed minimum value) of the token. LUA borrowers do not need to pay ongoing fees to liquidity providers and incur negative interest.
3. ChainFood
Reduce food waste, blockchain first. ChainFood is the first Ethereum public welfare dApp to fight food waste by connecting users with free food nearby.
ChainFood is the first non-profit dApp in the Ethereum ecosystem (solving the problem of food waste). Users can get free food information, publish lists and verify their identities through ERC addresses. FoodCoin tokens are used to incentivize users to receive or donate food. Layer2 tokens can be airdropped through SBT earned by users. 100% transparency of public welfare funds is guaranteed on the chain.
4. BitPoW
BitPoW, a product developed based on the first practical proof of work, looks forward to driving important progress in the field of blockchain consensus. With the promotion of this innovation, it is theoretically possible for public chains to achieve decentralization beyond Bitcoin, avoid the existence of mining pools, and provide lower gas costs for chain users. The BitPoW team is also committed to ensuring that this progress does not hinder the security of the blockchain, and has no intention of triggering a mining arms race or unnecessary energy consumption.
Layer 2 & On-Chain Gaming Main Track
First place: Cellula
Cellula is a fully blockchain-based artificial life simulation game where players explore, grow, evolve and collect unique life forms.
In this game, Conway's Game of Life rules are considered the genetic code of life forms, which determines their form and vitality. Using the game's crafting table, players can freely create various genetic sequences and breed their own on-chain life forms. These life forms have unique appearances and properties, and show a variety of life forms.
2nd Place: GasLockR (GasSubscribe Team)
Based on the real-time pricing model of Gas, GasLockR, as an on-chain infrastructure, also provides derivative services such as Gas Insurance and Gas Fee Subscription. GasLockR uses ZK coprocessors to obtain historical Gas prices and provides derivatives with real-time and verifiable pricing models to hedge the risk of Gas price fluctuations. As an on-chain infrastructure, it can build protocols and services to improve issues such as blockchain reliability and user experience. We propose the term GasFi and use GasLockR as the first trustless GasFi derivative protocol. With GasLockR, other wallets or services such as account abstraction (ERC-4337) will be able to provide SLAs to their users, allowing users and organizations to rely on the blockchain ecosystem. Based on GasLockR, the services provided include: tradable Gas Insurance, which provides premiums for future Gas prices; and Gas Fee Subscription, where users can use ERC20 tokens or fiat currencies to subscribe to Dapp interactions based on transaction quantity or time period.
3. Age of Navigation
This is a full-chain game that combines elements of real-time strategy, looters, and dark forest survival. The game map is a piece of Satosea covered by the fog of war, and the coordinates are encrypted using mimcHash. Under the fog are various resources, artifacts, and other players. Anyone can explore Satosea freely. The game uses MUD as an engine, and the information of the Satosea scene is stored in the on-chain smart contract. As the voyage progresses, the player calculates the corresponding parameters on the contract, and the fog of war will be unveiled. Players use the PoW algorithm to mine resources on the map or pick up artifacts. Resources will become tokens for in-game transactions and pledges, while artifacts can enhance various game performances. Everyone can attack each other and plunder property. When players perform actions, such as mining resources or attacking, they will temporarily expose their location to everyone. Therefore, they need to hide their tracks and obtain other people's information. This contains a wealth of strategies and gameplay.
4. Autochessia
Autochessia is an auto chess game, but runs entirely on the blockchain, which means that not only all game states are read and stored from the blockchain storage, but all game-related processes are implemented through smart contracts.
We believe that full-chain games will bring the next generation of UGC model, so we made this game and tried to make it scalable.
In order to enable the game to run on the chain, we implemented JPS (jump point search) in Solidity, designed the minimum interval of the game, and introduced VRF as a true random number.
Applications Main Track
First place Lumiterra
Lumiterra is a multiplayer online, open-world adventure game. In this vast world, you can fight with different players, grow crops, capture monsters, build different equipment and weapons, and explore new things!
At the same time, Lumiterra is not just a fun game. In the past, blockchain games mixed different types of users together, leading to various conflicts of interest and Ponzi situations. We innovatively put DeFi users, GameFi users (gold-farming players) and gamers in a coexisting system, where each type of user can pursue their own needs. By meeting these needs and the commodity economic mechanism in the overall game, we have built a healthy economic system composed of three enhanced flywheels.
2. Non Fungible Time
This is an advanced experimental Web3 protocol that gives every passing day the power of a time capsule. Time is marked by allowing users to publish and mint each day as an NFT. Preserve the profound moments and precious memories that weave our lives.
3. Soulcial
Soulcial is a self-generated social metaverse based on on-chain behavior and real-world data. Relying on a self-developed social activity evaluation model, users can co-create personalized social assets with AI, bind their social scores, and conduct social activities driven by AI algorithms, thereby building a unique soul social metaverse. The project can help users find soul partners while continuously accumulating their own decentralized social graph.
4. PeopleEquity
EquitySwap pioneered a new market value growth model, which ensures that project prices always have good liquidity during the rise. At the same time, it can reduce impermanent loss and transaction slippage, and with precise incentive mechanisms, it will usher in the era of DEX rebates, gradually replace CEX, and achieve full decentralization of transactions.
AI & Blockchain Main Track
No. 1 ProtocolSign
Web3 privacy electronic signature, asset and identity carrier. The ability to sign a contract in a private way, and only you know the content of the contract. We have also built an AI contract generation tool that can generate the contract you need in one sentence. In addition, this is not just a signature. The electronic signature is the carrier of the asset. What we essentially want to do is to create programmable credentials for real-world assets on the chain. This can provide users with identity and asset ownership, freedom and liquidity.
2. Megaxis
We have created a prompt market on a decentralized chain that is based on the Web3 token economy. By tokenizing prompts, the value of the underlying market can be realized. The market created by MEGAxis encourages engineers to earn tokens by creating and selling high-quality prompts. The better their prompts perform, the more valuable their tokens become. MEGAxis can also use the Web3 token economy to create a community around the platform. For example, users who hold tokens can be given voting rights on platform decisions, voting for and against prompts.
3. Metavoice
Metavoice is a MetaMask wallet with voice capabilities, specifically designed to empower the visually impaired. We recognized a significant problem faced by individuals with limited or no vision - navigating complex interfaces and managing transactions is a daunting task for them. We set out to create a solution that would provide these individuals with seamless direct access to their crypto wallets, and Metavoice is the result of that effort. Metavoice is more than just a product, it is a step towards a more inclusive future, a future where technology works equally for everyone.
4th Allditors
AI big model public audit infrastructure and DAO community. We comprehensively measure the degree of alignment between AI and human ethics, and display the model's bias level, values, and other performance on different issues through rankings and portraits. People can provide test data, propose audit matters and methodological contributions, obtain NFTs, and profit from the market built on this.
ETHShanghai Main Track - Developer Tool Main Track
1. Sodium Wallet
The Sodium wallet leverages zero-knowledge proof (ZK) and multi-party computation (MPC) technologies to allow users to access decentralized applications (dApps) without complex workflows or cryptographic knowledge.
In addition, Sodium Wallet also provides wallet services for decentralized applications.
2. zkGATE
This is a privacy-based login protocol, which allows users to log in to any third-party application using zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs). In the digital age, privacy and data security are major concerns. When we click on Sign in with Google to any app, the third-party app can access all the personal data in Google's database. It can save unnecessary personal information fields in its own database.
zkGATE is a login protocol that third-party applications can integrate, and only the information required by the application is passed to it, while other information is encrypted into a zero-knowledge proof and stored in an NFT that serves as an access pass.
3. ChainEye
Free and open-source full-chain analysis tools. ChainEye aims to build the world's leading free and open-source full-chain analysis tools for Web3 retail investors. Users can use the tools to find interesting opportunities such as liquidity mining, trading and lending, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), airdrops, token monitoring, DAO governance, etc. We currently support Optimism, Starknet, Arbitrum, and zkSyncEra, and will add more first- and second-layer chains in the near future. In order to support the construction of a thriving ecosystem on the first/second layer, we also provide RPC lists as a developer/user courtesy.
4. WASM Cairo
WASM-Cairo is a Cairo runtime and development kit based on Webassembly. WASM-Cairo is a Starknet L2 infrastructure developed based on Webassembly, which allows us to run any application written in Cairo anywhere (local machine, backend, and browser) - we can even run Kakarot zkEVM in the browser without any configuration and hardware/server requirements.
