Aiming to expand equal opportunities in the crypto industry and increase women's financial literacy, Binance launched the Binance Women in Technology Academy in cooperation with the Women in Technology Association (Wtech) in Turkey. The academy moved its training programs to Hatay and reached young women who were university students living in areas affected by the earthquake.

The program, which was held in Antakya, Hatay, on 26-27 March 2024, provided training on topics such as financial literacy, blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, NFTs, and cyber security, ensuring that students were equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to participate in the Web3 world. At the end of the program, certificates were presented to 80 participants. Binance also provided 270 Ramadan food parcels to families living in the container city where the courses are held.

We Prepare Women for Leadership

Binance Women in Technology Academy, which started in January 2024, completed its 8-week pilot program and graduated its first group of students. The collaboration between Binance and Wtech aims not only to introduce young women to the world of technology, but also to provide them with opportunities to lead both in their careers and in their societies. This initiative aims to address gender inequality in the industry by increasing the presence of women in the crypto, blockchain and Web3 spaces. After the success of the first group of 50 students, the team decided to move the program to Hatay.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at the end of the two-day intensive training program in Hatay, Binance Turkey General Manager Mücahit Dönmez touched upon Binance's aid efforts after the February 6 earthquake: "As Binance Turkey, we took important steps to show our support to the earthquake victims. Binance is in every earthquake-affected region of the country. donated 100 USD worth of BNB to one of its users. Additionally, the donations collected through Binance Charity were sent to the Turkish Red Crescent to support earthquake victims, and with the donation we made to AHBAP, steel construction buildings were built and opened for use as a school.”

Turkey not only has a crypto adoption rate of around 40%, but is also one of the global leaders in terms of enthusiasm for crypto and new technologies. However, as Dönmez emphasizes, inequality persists despite the positive worldwide trend in gender equality in the crypto industry in recent years. Binance is committed to supporting equality and diversity both within the company and across the entire ecosystem. Our mission goes beyond education and we aim to encourage and empower our students to shape the future.

“More than a Training Program”

In her speech at the ceremony, Zehra Öney, partner of Binance Women in Technology Academy and Founding President of the Women in Technology Association, said, “As the Women in Technology Association, our main goal has always been to train expert and competent individuals in the field of technology and to carry out focused studies to increase the number of women in workplaces, production processes and entrepreneurship. . This program attracted great interest. “With this program, we have made a good start to train strong and qualified female leaders who will fill the gap in Turkey and beyond.”

Finally, Binance Turkey Marketing Manager Harika Eldoğan emphasized the project's goal of providing training to 5,000 women in 5 years. “We are working to expand the crypto ecosystem in Turkey. It is especially important for us to include young people and women in this ecosystem. “We support women to take advantage of new opportunities in their journey to financial freedom and their development in these areas.” Eldoğan added that the Binance Women in Technology Academy is as much a community building initiative as it is a training program. Through this program, women working in different fields can come together, connect, and share their knowledge and experiences.

The program culminated in a graduation ceremony where more than 80 students were awarded course certificates and gift tablets from Lenovo to support them throughout their educational and professional journeys. The Binance team also supported the local community of Hatay by donating 270 Ramadan food parcels to families living in the container city in the region, instead of hosting the iftar dinner held every year in Istanbul. The container city, built by Needs Map after the earthquake last year to shelter families who lost their homes, was also the place where training was given.
