Saga is a project that provides blockchain building services for applications. Or in other words, Saga is a blockchain network used to launch other blockchains, called "Chainlets" in the Saga ecosystem.

Chainlets are secured by Saga's validator through a mechanism called Interchain Security, a common security system from Cosmos.

1. What is Saga?

  • Saga is a Layer 1 protocol that allows developers to dynamically create dedicated VM-agnostic, parallel, and interoperable chains, or “Chainlets,” that provide applications with the ability to expands horizontally indefinitely.

  • Saga enables developers to launch Chainlets at the click of a button through shared security, advanced validator orchestration, and a standardized automated CI/CD deployment process on any type of virtual machine Which blockchain?

  • In less than 2 years, Saga has grown from 0 to 350 projects built on its protocol, 80% of which are gaming. Saga has also signed partnerships with Polygon, Avalanche, MarbleX, Com2uS, and Celestia to automatically scale their infrastructure using Chainlets.

1.1 Project tasks

  • Saga's mission is to support the next 1000 series working in gaming and entertainment as part of the growing Saga Multiverse.

1.2 Value proposition

  • Mass adoption of blockchain is imminent, and developers need an infinitely scalable, interoperable, and cost-effective underlying infrastructure to support consumer applications.

  • By allowing developers to create dedicated block space on demand that scales to performance needs, opens quick bridges to other ecosystems, and is priced at a commodity level, Saga provides providing the E2E infrastructure developers need to build the next generation of applications on blockchain.

1.3 Main highlights of the project

  • All construction projects on Saga are part of the Saga Innovation Program, which as of April 1, 2024 includes 350 projects. 80% of these projects are gaming. About 10% of projects are NFTs and entertainment, and 10% are DeFi.

Saga also has partnerships with the following Layer 1 protocols to extend their infrastructure using Chainlets:

    • Polygon . Saga will automate the polygon CDK chain

    • Avalanche . Saga will automate the Avalanche subnet

    • Celestia . Saga will automate decentralized aggregations with Celestia DA

    • Marble X . Saga will provide the scaling infrastructure for the MarbleX chain

    • Com2uS . Saga will provide scaling infrastructure for the Com2uS chain

  • In March 2024, Saga launched Saga Origins, a new game publishing division dedicated to bringing quality, cutting-edge games to market.

    • Saga is a web3 series that aims to establish a dedicated game publishing arm for collaborative developers to release their projects.

    • Saga Origins is committed to providing a full service and collaborative approach to bringing gaming to the global mass market. While developers traditionally only secure grants to build and launch their games, Saga Origins offers additional beneficial support, including partnerships with influencers to raise awareness, fund user engagement campaigns, build community, and provide advertising support.

    • Through ongoing Play-to-Airdrop campaigns, Saga, game studios, and guilds all collaborate to organize tournaments where players are rewarded with highly sought-after SAGA tokens for participating. Most recently in January, Saga completed its revolutionary The Three Kingdoms airdrop campaign with participating partners Avalanche, Polygon, and Solana.

  • Saga Pegasus Incentive Testnet is released in Q4 2023 and delivers the following performance metrics:

  • Saga Mainnet, Phase 1 will include Saga Security Chain and Platform Chain. Together, the Saga Security Chain and the Platform Chain will form the Mainnet Saga.

    • Security Chain - serves as the first of many security sources for the Saga protocol

    • Platform Chain - the destination where developers launch and maintain their Chainlets

    • Chainlet - the area where all applications live and end user activities take place. The first Chainlet stack will be an EVM-based Chainlet to support the large Solidity and Ethereum ecosystems, but the goal is to be VM-agnostic to allow developers to deploy in any environment they like

1.4 Available products

  • Saga Protocol is a fully decentralized proof-of-stake chain. Each Chainlet is a replica of the Saga Mainnet, with the same set of authenticators and security model.

  • Each Chainlet has the following features:

    • Infinite horizontal scalability: All Chainlets are parallel application chain instances, allowing applications to scale dynamically for peak performance and speed.

    • Transactions are inexpensive and chain fees are low and predictable: Developers can choose any monetization model they like, including their own tokens (or no tokens at all), fiat currencies, stablecoins or even other ecosystem tokens. All Chainlet fees are set by a daily reverse auction between validators, incentivizing commodity pricing for block space.

    • Automation: Developers can set up Chainlet with the click of a button in Saga WebApp.

    • Interoperability and fast connectivity: Users can transfer assets freely and quickly between Chainlets - and Saga and other ecosystems - using automatic interoperability and connectivity asynchronous. Because each Chainlet provides fast final transactions, users can also take advantage of fast connectivity with other chains.

    • Fully flexible stack: Developers enjoy their own dedicated threads, allowing for optimal flexibility and customization of the environment.

  • The Chainlet Saga Realm is how block space that is not a Chainlet stack can be automated through the Saga Protocol. Saga Realms allows developers to launch customizable chains on Saga with different features and services such as technology stacks, security sources, and different obligations for those sources.

  • Within the Realms framework, the standard Saga Chainlet has become one of many Realms that will be supported in the near future, including Realms for Saga partners at Ethereum (Ethlets), Polygon, Avalanche, Celestia, XPLA and many other kingdoms. and the following architectural components required for all other Realms to be integrated.

1.5 Technical details

Saga uses shared security to automate the instantiation of fully decentralized, proof-of-stake chains. Every Saga Chainlet is secured by the Saga Mainnet validator using common security.

Saga's shared security is similar to Eigenlayer staking in that a staked asset is reused to secure multiple chains. Chainlet can be configured to use many different virtual machines (e.g. EVM, SolanaVM, MoveVM). Each Chainlet has a dedicated VM that has been deployed on an individual chain. EVM is the first virtual machine supported by Saga Chainlets.

Saga allows developers to manually “shard” different workflows into multiple Chainlets to take advantage of horizontal scalability. Since Chainlets all communicate with each other, developers can have multiple chains supporting the same application, allowing for infinite horizontal scalability.
