Project Description:

Grass is an innovative network sharing application designed to help you monetize unused network resources (such as home Internet bandwidth). Although not the originator of residential proxy networks, Grass aims to revolutionize this concept by creating a decentralized network where ordinary people can earn extra income by sharing idle Internet resources.

There are currently more than 2 million personal IP network addresses. Only users who are online in real time can obtain Grass points. If your mobile phone or computer network is disconnected, the Grass points will stop being generated. In other words, you can only obtain Grass points if you keep running the Grass application.

There are four stages to earn points by participating in the Grass network, one stage per month. We are currently in the third stage. It is expected that tokens will be issued after the fourth stage.

Project Team Score C:

Grass is the flagship product of Wynd Network, so the team is also the team of Wynd Network. According to publicly disclosed information, there is only information about its CTO Chris Nguyen, and the disclosed information is very little. Therefore, the author can only give it a C.

Project Technical Score B:

According to Grass' latest technology disclosure, Grass will create a Layer 2 data rollup to address the lack of data transparency in AI to introduce a mechanism for recording metadata of the origins of all data sets.

In simple terms, as shown on the left side of the architecture diagram, between Grass clients and web servers, you can see the traditionally defined Grass network. Clients make web requests, which are sent through validators and ultimately routed through Grass nodes. Regardless of which website the client requests, its server responds to the web request, allowing its data to be scraped and sent back over the wire. It will then be cleaned, processed, and prepared for use in training the next generation of AI models.

In the latest released technology path, Grass has added two new technical cores, namely the Grass data ledger and the ZK processor.

Grass Data Ledger

The Grass Data Ledger is where all data is ultimately stored. It is a permanent distributed ledger of every dataset scraped on Grass, now embedded with metadata to record its lineage from the moment of origin. Proofs of each dataset’s metadata will be stored on Solana’s settlement layer, and the settlement data itself will also be available through the Grass Data Ledger. It is important to note that Grass has a place to store the data it scrapes.

The data ledger is significant because it expands GRASS into a fundamentally different business model. While the protocol will continue to audit buyers who send their own network requests and scrape their own data on the web, more and more of its active interactions will involve data already stored on the data ledger. With this capability, GRASS can now use data that has been collected, processed, categorized, and hosted in an ever-expanding data repository in large model training.

This repository is the data layer of the modular AI stack, from which builders can pick and choose components to train infinitely differentiated models. It is a microcosm of the Internet itself, providing training data that is already structured and ready to be ingested by AI.

ZK Processor

The purpose of a ZK processor is to assist in recording the provenance of datasets obtained from the Grass network. When a node on the network (in other words, a user using the Grass extension client) sends a network request to a website, the website returns an encrypted response that includes all the data requested by the node. For all intents and purposes, this is the moment our dataset is born and the moment of origin that needs to be recorded.

And this is exactly the moment captured by the ZK processor when it records the metadata. It contains multiple fields: the session key, the URL of the scraped website, the IP address of the target website, the timestamp of the transaction, and of course the data itself. With this necessary information, we can know without a doubt whether a certain dataset comes from the website it claims to be, and therefore whether a certain AI model has been trained correctly and reliably.

The reason a ZK processor is needed is because this data needs to be settled on-chain, but Grass doesn’t want Solana validators to see all of it. Furthermore, the sheer volume of network requests being executed on Grass one day will inevitably exceed the throughput of any L1, even one as powerful as Solana. Grass will soon scale to the point of executing tens of millions of network requests per minute, and the metadata for each of those requests will need to be settled on-chain. It’s conceivable that it would be impossible to submit these transactions to L1 without a ZK processor to first attest and batch them.

Investor team score C:

Grass' parent company Wynd Network announced in December 2023 that it had completed a $3.5 million seed round of financing, led by Polychain Capital and Tribe Capital, with participation from Bitscale, Big Brain, Advisors Anonymous, Typhon V and Mozaik.

Grass has raised funds less frequently and in smaller amounts, so I give it a C.

Market heat score A:

Grass is currently in the testnet incentive state, and more than 2 million IPs are currently participating in the test incentive. In addition, the decentralized over-the-counter DEX Whales Market announced that it will add support for the decentralized incentive crawling network Grass, and users can trade Grass points in Whales Market.

And a few days ago, the official account of Binance sent an ambiguous tweet, which seemed to hint at Grass. Grass has therefore gained more attention and is expected to be listed on Binance. Therefore, I give Grass an A for its current market popularity.

Participate in the tutorial:

There are four stages of Grass test incentives in total, and it is currently in the third stage. Readers are required to prepare a Chrome browser and a VPN.

(1) Open the official website

🔥✔️Grass registration link: https://app.getgrass.io/register/?referralCode=qBQ3ponWUwgWcfh

🔥💰💞Invitation code: qBQ3ponWUwgWcfh

(2) Install the plug-in. In this step, you need to open the VPN, click the green button "CONNECT" in the middle, jump to download the plug-in, and you will be prompted to install the plug-in. Click to install.

(3) Log in, install the plug-in, remember to close the ladder, log in to the plug-in with the account and password you just registered, and the following screen will be displayed. Wait for the network to load. (The WIFI icon shows 85%, which is normal)

The author's opinion:

Grass is currently one of the few free projects. Even if you participate now, there is still a lot of expectations. Grass points can be traded on Whales Market, and the current price is 0.003 US dollars per point. The income from idle is 1000-3000 points per day, and the floating range is also very large depending on the network bandwidth.

GRASS supports multiple devices to hang bandwidth, but it should be noted that they cannot be on the same network. And the network online time will also greatly affect the daily points income.

In addition to the current points income, Grass also has a very large token airdrop expectation. According to community discussions, the tokens will be issued after the fourth phase of incentives are completed. That is, after May. The author believes that Grass will be a universal airdrop. Basically, if you participate, you will definitely get a share. The earlier you participate, the more likely you will get.
