PANews reported on May 14 that Kim Nam-guk, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, the main opposition party in South Korea, said on Sunday that he would quit the party due to increasing allegations of involvement in large-scale cryptocurrency transactions, according to the Korea Herald. Kim Nam-guk was exposed to own about 800,000 Wemix tokens in 2021, worth about 6 billion won (US$4.5 million), which is very different from his frugal image. Prosecutors have launched an investigation into the matter to confirm whether there is any illegal behavior. There are allegations that he traded cryptocurrencies during at least two meetings of the National Assembly Judiciary Committee in May and November last year. Kim Nam-guk said he would demand legal responsibility for a large number of false news reports in the past week.
