《Interview Date: April 4, 2023》

1. You can introduce yourself first

Hello everyone, I am Moonlight, and I am also the leader of the Ultiverse community. Most of the Web3 friends know me through the programs I host on the media. I am also engaged in project incubation, community management, copywriting, and operational strategy design. Some people may think that I am a KOL or influencer, but in fact I do a lot of behind-the-scenes work, including but not limited to community management, product planning, and media operations. I hope to be a builder.

Let me tell you a little secret. I actually started to learn Chinese Pinyin in middle school. I also went to Chinese schools and took related courses at Columbia University. I have been working part-time and studying, and I am still learning. At first, I read Pinyin the same way as I read English, which made a lot of jokes, but now almost no one would think that my family is an old immigrant who has been overseas for decades. My school is ranked well in the United States and the world, and since my freshman year, the school arranged for me to be an assistant to the professor, so I am familiar with the environment of the education circle. If I hadn't been exposed to self-media in middle school, I would have stayed in school to do research after graduation.

When my traffic on YouTube, TikTok and other traditional media platforms reached a certain level, manufacturers began to approach me for cooperation. Even now, even if I don’t have time to update, I still have a fixed amount of traffic and receive cooperation invitations from time to time. My audience on some platforms is from Europe and the United States, and on other platforms, the audience is from South America and Asia, so I have met people from all over the world.

In addition to my job, I have also co-founded a project incubation team with my predecessors to provide operational support. No matter what kind of talents and operational services the project party needs, we will do our best to arrange them. Feel free to contact me at any time.

2. Can you share your experience before entering the industry?

I am actually a very shy person by nature, but I have spent a lot of time on stage since I was a child. In the past, in order to win various bonuses, I participated in various competitions along the way and won many awards, including program hosting, instrumental performance, speech debate, I also won the first place in the cooking competition in the United States, and appeared in various TV news. Because of these awards, I later applied for many scholarships. My principle is not to bring financial burden to my family and to be able to provide for the needs of my family.

When I was in middle school, I started posting on several overseas media platforms. The content I posted was mainly in English because most of my fans were from overseas. Therefore, in my shows, I usually use English, and on different platforms, such as WeChat, I will use Chinese; on Twitter, I will try to use both Chinese and English. During the summer vacation last year, I spent three months to become the top 50 speaker in the global Web3 field output on Twitter.

I also spent less than four months continuously producing, shooting and editing more than a dozen videos every day, operating the traffic of the TikTok account, and creating videos with millions of traffic. Currently, there are about 210K real users on the channel operated by Binance Live. Each account must pass KYC and face recognition before being able to follow the channel. Therefore, all these 210K fans are real, without robots.

I have been exposed to various performances and competitions since I was a child, especially in music. I have combined Eastern and Western instruments and cultures, adapted many songs, and played them all mixed together using different instruments. I can run 5 or 6 performances on weekends, especially during various festivals. I have also been a keyboardist and a guest soloist for Western orchestras, collected many instruments, and collaborated with many famous anchors and singers. I have also been a judge of music competitions and the organizer of international music competitions. I don't do these things to become a KOL, this is my lifestyle.

I have been doing shows on Twitter and in my live studio since last summer vacation, and it has been almost a year now. I am very busy every day. In addition to preparing for the show, I also have to use my free time to do community management, copywriting, project planning, product planning and other work.

Because my family needs me to support them, I basically have no entertainment in my life, it's all work, but I am happy to continue doing this. I used to joke that I am a person who has no leisure and entertainment in the entertainment industry. Many people who just met me would think that I am not good-looking and can't last. However, anyone who has known me for a few years knows that I have always been like this.

I work seven days a week for several years. I don't have annual leave, winter and summer vacations, Thanksgiving or Christmas, or weekends. In fact, the holiday season is my busiest period, because many companies arrange with me to host festival-related programs or performances several months in advance.

For me, hosting various programs or performances and bringing joy or entertainment to others is my own interest and pleasure, and I entertain myself. In addition to my own living expenses, I also bear the living expenses, loans, medical expenses, etc. of my family, so my outlook on life and values are different from those of my peers. I am very happy to be able to help my family, and I am very grateful for the understanding and support of various project parties.

Core content: I have loved performing and competing since I was a child, so I participated in many different competitions, including program hosting, instrumental performance, speech debate, etc. I won many awards and scholarships, which also allowed me to help my family without bringing them financial burdens. Later, I started to publish content on several overseas media platforms. I kept trying new things, including operating accounts on short video platforms and operating Binance live broadcast channels. Although there is no entertainment in my life, I really enjoy my work and being able to help my family. I work seven days a week, and even get busier during the holidays. This is my lifestyle, and I am happy to continue doing what I love and bring joy and entertainment to others.

3. What was the opportunity that led you to enter the circle?

A British DeFi project really brought me into the Web3 field. As the only Asian community leader, I can communicate in Chinese and English, arrange bilingual AMAs, understand European and American culture, and have connections in the Chinese community, which meets the work partners that the project has been looking for. At first, I needed to translate the project's DeFi materials from English to Chinese, which included terms such as mining pools and staking. While making music, I began to learn about blockchain, answer community questions, and participate in DeFi AMA activities. I also hosted many Twitter Spaces to discuss various projects with friends in the Chinese and European and American circles.

With the advent of the bull market last year, I participated in many shows and interacted with the audience through online platforms. Because of masks, online performances have become more common. I also learned how to use various platforms and continued to explore new opportunities in Web3, including participating in projects in the picture circle and chain games.

By chance, a Taiwanese anchor told me that my voice was very similar to Lin Chiling's on a show, and asked me to imitate Lin Chiling. Later, I became famous in an online party, and many celebrities also participated in it, including Mr. Kai-Fu Lee, who imitated Donald Duck. These are many activities that I participated in online during the epidemic. This also made me deeply realize that it is much easier to participate in these activities online than to contact these famous people offline. If I want to contact these people offline, I need to walk a long way to get there. However, online, I can easily contact them. Slowly, I have accumulated some fame and traffic myself, and began to get some attention from hundreds of K fans. I also met some musicians, and some friends now have tens of thousands of fans. We started to follow each other in the early days. Sometimes, I will perform on the same stage with some celebrities or KOLs. They will think I have a future, and even some elders who have been following me for several years will follow me across platforms because they want to see where I will go in the future and what projects I will participate in. Now, many friends from other platforms continue to support me, and they are also my valuable resources. I want to thank them.

I have done 800 video shows in the past six months, and I expect to have more than 1,000 in less than a year. During this period, I continue to learn new knowledge and skills, because the shows I will host also need to involve these knowledge. The Moonlight Virtual Person NFT project also uses my name. This is a project of the Ultiverse team, invested by Binance and Sequoia. I think this is also a milestone in my life, because it proves that my hard work and serious work are recognized by the team and the community.

I started as a community member, gradually became a host of community programs, then became a helper, answering questions, etc., until now I am the community leader. My job authority is increasing, and my work content is increasing, but I continue to study courses.

Because our team is in different time zones, I need to coordinate different work and meeting times. Although I don't need to run around on the road, I still need to handle various things online. I am a very serious and responsible person. I will do my best to complete the tasks assigned to me. My work and rest schedule has become very chaotic. I often only have four hours of rest a day, and working all night has become commonplace, but I can adapt to this state.

Core content: I am an Asian community leader responsible for Chinese promotion and community management of a British DeFi project. I learned about blockchain and participated in various AMA events and Twitter Spaces to explore new opportunities in Web3. I also began to accumulate popularity and traffic in online performances and shows, and participated in exchanges with some musicians. My work content has gradually increased, but I continue to study courses and can adapt to the busy work status.

4. Do you have any memorable experiences in Web3?

I am very conservative about investing because I still need to take care of my family, so I will only invest a little bit within my ability and will not take too much risk. But I am good at traffic. I have more than 200,000 online users on Binance Live, and I have been exposed to and proficient in this skill since the Web2 era. In the Web3 era, I successfully brought the traffic of a Metaverse Week event to our account. Although this investment did not make me rich, I can really help the project to bring traffic. I think this is also my strength because I have been doing this since I was very young.

On each platform, as long as I have a few months to operate, I will try to be the top of that category. On the Binance live broadcast platform, I quickly climbed to the top of the list and maintained good performance. There are many unknown hardships behind this. For example, my wrists are worn out from typing, shooting, and editing videos, so I need to wear a brace; and when I was rehearsing for the concert, my fingers often broke the skin and my lips were swollen from playing; I also often need to host several shows in a row. When my throat hurts, I have to pay attention to maintaining my voice and not let it sound hoarse. I have been receiving various performance training since I was a child, and I am not afraid of hardship.

Core content: I am very conservative in investment and will only invest a little within my ability. But I am good at traffic. I started to get in touch with and mastered this skill in the Web2 era. I have more than 200,000 online users on the Binance live broadcast platform, and successfully brought the traffic of the Metaverse Week event to our account.

5.Which track do you think is more promising?

I think this year's blockchain games are not just games themselves, but MetaFi that needs to combine more elements. For example, it needs to combine tokens, because some people don't really want to play games, but are interested in tokens. In addition, many people are interested in the consensus of the NFT community and the cohesion of the narrative community.

In addition, social attributes are also important because everyone still needs social attributes, especially in the current network society. Therefore, a complete blockchain game should combine these aspects. It is best to form an ecosystem rather than a single project. If a project is too single, its popularity will not last long.

For example, the Ultiverse MetaFi ecosystem combines NFT, games, land, tokens, the metaverse, and social attributes, so its popularity has always remained high. I am responsible for a large part of media operations, which is also a very important aspect of the ecosystem. In summary, a successful project needs to combine multiple products, have strong community support, and form a complete ecosystem without being monotonous.

Core content: This year's blockchain games need to combine MetaFi elements, such as tokens, the consensus of the NFT community, the cohesion and social attributes of the narrative community, in order to become a complete ecosystem, rather than a single project. A successful project needs to combine multiple products, have strong community support, and form a complete ecosystem.

6. How do you maintain enough personal energy?

Everyone has different sources of energy, such as playing games, chatting, shopping, watching movies, etc., but for me, I don't have time to do those things to recharge. My biggest source of motivation is my family. Just thinking about doing more for my family, such as taking on more work to make money, can keep me going.

I used to share my cooking records on traditional platforms, which is also one of my strengths. I learned to cook in kindergarten because my mother was picky about food due to her poor health, so I have been able to cook delicious meals for my family since I was a child. I even won a state cooking competition championship in the United States, was interviewed by the media, and almost chose to study at a famous culinary college in New York. When I was in elementary school, I would make various breads and cookies for my family’s breakfast and snacks. Using simple and affordable ingredients to make delicious and beautiful meals is what I am good at. I received an invitation to record a food show, and a publishing house was interested in helping me publish recipes. Maybe one day, we will have a metaverse food show, which would also be great!

I am grateful to my parents for their education and support when I was a child, which has enabled me to do more for my family today. My family is also the source of motivation for me to continue working hard.

Core content: Family is the biggest source of motivation. One of my specialties is cooking. I have been making breakfast and snacks since elementary school. I have won the championship in the state cooking competition in the United States, and have also accepted invitations to record food programs and publish cookbooks. I am very grateful for the education and support of my parents when I was young, which enabled me to do more for my family.

7. What are your prospects for the future?

My goal is to build a project incubation team and work with my teammates to turn completely unknown projects into popular projects in a short period of time. This can not only help the project do more things, but also help people who want to become KOLs to incubate their projects. Of course, the project itself must have a certain level and must not be a project with no level, even if its product is really good. We can expand it at home and abroad to let more people know about it.

For example, our currently operating Meta Merge Cute Pets project (Twitter: @MetaMerge_xyz) has 50K Twitter followers in less than a month. On the day the Cute Pets NFT was launched, more than 100K NFTs were minted in less than 36 hours, becoming the number one on the BNB chain.

We started minting at 2pm Singapore time on April 13th, which was a very bleak period for the small picture market, and blue chip projects kept falling. We also chose to issue on the BNB chain, which is an ecosystem that many small picture players are not so familiar with. Therefore, the entire Ultiverse team is very happy to have such a result!

In addition, many KOLs or project followers have actively requested cooperation. For example: SafePal with more than 500K fans, Menta Network of ZK Ecosystem, more than 200K communities in South Korea, and many KOLs in Japan. Many large projects have cooperated to promote the cute pet project. These are all achievements achieved through the team's operation methods, proving the value and importance of the project incubation platform.

I have met countless manufacturers and project owners in the past few years. Some of them have seemingly beautiful traffic, but the results of their product launches are very bleak and the conversion rate is not high, which is quite a pity. The Ultiverse team can not only operate real popularity, but also convert traffic into actual users.

Sometimes, the high traffic may be due to the large number of people coming to join in the fun. However, when it comes time to dig into everyone’s pockets, not everyone is willing to pay. Looking at the bustle of people, it is actually empty and lonely. My thinking is very conservative, and I have always believed that only by being down-to-earth and doing things steadily can we be able to operate for a long time and become stronger and stronger. At the same time, mastering foreign language skills and constantly developing outside the circle is the only way to look at the world.

The reason why the Ultiverse ecosystem has successfully launched products one after another in the past year is also related to the community's trust and recognition of our team. We spend a lot of time communicating with the community every day, and we will also absorb the suggestions and feedback from the community to improve products and optimize services. At the same time, I sincerely thank the operations team and technical team who have endured countless dark nights together! Without everyone's joint construction, we cannot hand in a brilliant report card.

Core content: Build a project incubation team to help unknown projects become popular projects in a short period of time. For example, our Meta Merge cute pet project has 50K Twitter followers in less than a month, which also proves the value and importance of our incubation platform. At the same time, many KOLs or project followers hope to cooperate with us to promote the project.

8. Is there anything you would like to share proactively?

I want to share some experiences, hoping to encourage those who want to develop full-time in Web3. I think it is important to be proactive, and you need to show others your ability and willingness to help. If you don't take the initiative, others won't see you. Therefore, it is also important to keep learning and doing things, you will feel that you have learned a lot and you will not be tired.

In addition, there are always people who are better than you, so don't look down on anyone. Also, when people communicate with each other, it is inevitable that there will be differences of opinion. If you don't think about it five years later, then don't worry about it. Focus on working towards your goals. The world is really bigger than you think. Finally, I hope that one day I can use the products and technologies developed by our project to restore the image and voice of my mother, and we will have the opportunity to communicate in the metaverse.

Core content: You should take the initiative to show others your ability and willingness. It is also important to keep learning and doing things. In addition, don't look down on anyone, focus on your own goals and don't care about differences with others.
