Haha, bored in the hotel, so I dug into the CMC data—then BTC surged back 😂

Right now, the BTC reserves on exchanges are about $59.0 billion, accounting for 30.3%, and they’ve already overtaken USDT, which had dominated the rankings for several months.

As for USDT, it’s currently around $55.3 billion, or 28.4%.

What’s even more interesting is that when I looked into the reserve composition across different exchanges, the “style” really varies a lot.

First, let’s look at a few representative ones:

OKX, Binance, and Gate all have pretty interesting structures.

Binance has the largest overall volume. Its stablecoin reserves alone are about $46.0 billion—very liquid, the “big warehouse” type.

OKX’s asset structure is relatively more balanced. There are clear allocations across BTC, ETH, stablecoins, etc., and overall it doesn’t lean extremely in any one direction.

Gate is especially interesting: BTC makes up nearly 64% of reserves, while USDT is only 10.85%. Compared with platforms where stablecoins take up a higher share, it’s a completely different vibe.

Next, look at MEXC and KuCoin. Their stablecoin share can reach around 60%–70%, clearly leaning more toward stablecoins and liquidity.

So I think exchange reserve data is sometimes really worth checking.

Even though they’re all exchanges, the asset structures differ so much—behind the scenes, it can actually reflect users’ trading habits and risk preferences.

Some people like to keep USDT on hand and wait for opportunities;
Others just hold BTC/ETH spot and don’t move it 😂
