In March 2008, the US government and JPMorgan Chase jointly rescued Bear Stearns, the fifth largest investment bank in the United States with a management of $400 billion. In September of the same year, Lehman Brothers, which was twice the size of Bear Stearns, went bankrupt, directly triggering the global financial crisis.
