Cryptocurrency security incidents in the first half of 2024: hacker attacks caused losses of approximately US$1.56 billion, and US$319 million was recovered

According to Odaily Planet Daily, Paidun released a report on security incidents in the crypto field in the first half of 2024, during which more than 200 major hacker attacks occurred, causing losses of approximately US$1.56 billion, but US$319 million was recovered. This figure increased by 293% compared with the same period in 2023. DeFi protocols remain the main target of attacks, accounting for 59% of the total value stolen.

More than 20 public chains have experienced major hacker attacks, and the top three cryptocurrencies in terms of loss amount are Ethereum, Bitcoin, and XRP. Ethereum and BNB Chain accounted for 31.3% of the hacker attacks, followed by Arbitrum, which accounted for 12.5%.
