Jeju of South Korea releases NFT travel cards to attract Generation Z: Report
Jeju Island of South Korea, a self-governing tourist destination, is said to be testing NFT travel cards to attract the country's youth.
Jeju Island of South Korea is reportedly planning to issue non-fungible token (NFT) travel cards aimed at boosting the number of young tourists visiting the country.
Local news agency Maeil Business Newspaper reported on January 5 that Jeju plans to launch digital travel cards in the second half of 2025, combined with NFTs, which will also come with a range of perks.
The island hopes that the digital travel cards based on NFTs will pique the interest of millennials and Generation Z — those born from the late 1980s to the early 2010s — and increase the rate of young tourists returning.
Jeju is the largest island in South Korea and a popular tourist spot known for its hiking trails and resorts. It is the country's first self-governing province with its own local government, with a history of initiatives in cryptocurrency, having launched a blockchain-based COVID-19 contact tracing app in 2021.
The travel cards linked to NFTs, which will undergo a first testing phase before full deployment in the second half of 2025, will offer travel subsidies and discounts at tourist attractions around the island. #Korea #NFT
