Switzerland Could Include Bitcoin Reserves in National Assets
Switzerland has begun discussions on creating national reserves of $BTC , continuing its tradition of holding $27 billion worth of gold reserves.
A new proposal published by the Swiss Federal Chancellery calls for the Swiss National Bank (SNB) to include Bitcoin alongside gold among its reserve assets.
Switzerland Wants to Join the Bitcoin Reserve Race
The proposal is being driven by a group of crypto advocates and requires a legal amendment to force the change. In order to move forward, the initiative must collect 100,000 valid signatures from Swiss citizens by June 30, 2025.
If successful, the Swiss Federal Assembly will consider the proposal, which could strengthen Switzerland’s position as a leader in crypto adoption.
Switzerland regularly holds referendums to decide on legal issues, emphasizing its commitment to direct democracy.
The SNB has historically expressed reservations about cryptocurrencies. But advocates of the initiative argue that Bitcoin could provide a hedge against inflation and strengthen Switzerland's reputation as a hub for financial innovation.
