The Truth About the EU’s USDT “Ban”
The idea that USDT will be “100% banned” in the EU has been widely circulated, but the reality is more complex and based on MiCA regulations. I will explain why this is being said and what is really behind it. Starting December 30, 2024, the European Union will fully implement the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework for crypto. One of the most significant implications of this regulation is that it will require stablecoin issuers, such as Tether (USDT), to obtain specific licenses and meet strict transparency, liquidity, and consumer protection requirements in order to operate within the European bloc.
