ChainCatcher News, U.S. House Republicans are looking for ways to avoid a government shutdown, and their second appropriations proposal was rejected Thursday night. There are still a few hours left before the Friday deadline.

House Speaker Johnson said earlier on Friday that Republicans have reached a Plan C to avoid a government shutdown and plan to vote soon. Senate Republicans called the failure of two proposals they witnessed in the House of Representatives to fund the government until Christmas a "chaotic farce" and a "fiasco." Incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune (Republican) said as he left the Capitol: "I think everything is back to square one."
