Cumulus Data, the first nuclear-powered data center in the United States, has been built. The park covers an area of 1,200 acres and will be used to provide Bitcoin mining and cloud computing services. Currently, the project is still in the first phase and is expected to provide 50 megawatts of energy for crypto mining. The park's final total installed capacity can reach 475 megawatts.
In 2021, the park operator announced the establishment of a joint venture with mining company TeraWulf to carry out the Nautilus Cryptomine project in the park.
Cumulus Data's data center is powered by the Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant, which has two generating units, each with a net generating capacity of 1,257 megawatts. Unit 1 was put into commercial operation in 1983, and Unit 2 was put into commercial operation in 1985. (World Nuclear News)
