The Shiba Inu development team has just completed the rollout of an emergency security upgrade for the Shibarium bridge, marking an important step in optimizing and preparing for major changes in the ecosystem. This update was issued ahead of the upcoming hard fork, aimed at enhancing the network's performance and scalability.
Shibarium prepares for a significant hard fork after completing the security upgrade
On November 30, Shiba Inu ecosystem developer Kaal Dhairya confirmed the completion of a major maintenance period for the Shibarium bridge. This upgrade temporarily put the bridge into maintenance mode to address security issues and prepare for upcoming significant changes. Dhairya also assured users that their assets remain completely safe throughout the maintenance process.
The Shibarium bridge allows for the secure and seamless transfer of tokens between the Ethereum network and Shibarium. During the maintenance period, token burning activities were temporarily paused, but the amount of burned tokens continued to accumulate in the background. After the security upgrade is completed, the bridge has returned to normal operation.
Dhairya also confirmed that while the bridge is operating smoothly, the upgrade of the burn contracts continues to be implemented. These improvements will be carried out throughout the weekend and in the coming days.
"Maintenance has been completed and the Shibarium bridge is now back online. However, the upgrade of the burn contracts is still ongoing and will continue next week," Dhairya stated.
Upcoming significant hard fork
This update is being rolled out in the context of Shibarium, Shiba Inu's Layer-2 blockchain solution, preparing for a significant hard fork early next week. This hard fork will optimize the network's performance, improve transaction speeds, and address scalability issues. These improvements are expected to lay a solid foundation for Shibarium's sustainable development, ensuring the ability to handle increasing demand while maintaining efficiency.
"A hard fork is an important protocol upgrade that introduces new features, fixes performance bottlenecks, and improves overall functionality. For Shiba Inu’s Layer-2 network, the upcoming hard fork is specifically designed to enhance throughput and improve the overall processing capabilities of the network."
Since its launch last year, Shibarium has achieved significant milestones. The network has processed nearly 600 million transactions, with the 500 million transaction mark recorded earlier this month. Approximately 2 million blockchain addresses have interacted with Shibarium, and the network has successfully processed over 8 million blocks.

With these achievements, the upcoming upgrade marks a strategic milestone in Shiba Inu's development journey, reflecting the ecosystem's commitment to innovating and optimizing the network. These technical improvements will expand Shibarium's capabilities in the blockchain space, continuing to affirm the platform's position in the crypto industry.
