Musk: The U.S. Government is Worried About Starship Hitting Sharks

According to a report by Reference News on October 21, citing the website of RT on October 20, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, revealed that the company had to fight against bureaucratic red tape to convince U.S. government agencies that SpaceX's spacecraft would not harm sharks and whales when landing in the ocean.

During a rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on the 19th, Musk recalled that the company had to conduct a study to 'see if Starship would hit sharks,' which drew laughter from the crowd.

He described: 'I said: 'It's a vast ocean with many sharks. (Starship hitting a shark) is not impossible, but the likelihood is very low.'

The tycoon loudly asked, 'Am I doing a comedy skit?'

Musk then said that the federal government found another environmental concern to worry about. 'So, what about whales? When you look at pictures of the Pacific Ocean, what percentage of the ocean's surface do you think is occupied by whales?' He said, 'Honestly, if Starship really did hit a whale, it would be the whale's fault for being there, because the chances are so low.'

He also pointed out the overlapping jurisdictions of many government agencies. He said, 'We have to stop this madness, or we won't be able to do anything.' (Translation by Hu Xue)
