A new Ethereum Network Improvement Proposal (EIP-7781) was introduced in October 2024, aiming to increase the network’s throughput by 50%. The proposal is based on reducing block times from 12 seconds to 8 seconds, which will boost transaction speeds and increase data capacity on the network. The change is expected to improve the efficiency of decentralized applications like Uniswap by around 22%, while saving around $100 million annually in arbitrage between centralized and decentralized exchanges.
