As Token2049 came to an end, the Stablecoin Summit hosted by XREX was immediately held. Marek Olszewski, CEO of cLabs, used the theme "May the Forex Be with You" at the summit to talk about Celo's rapid development in stablecoins in recent years. The following is an exclusive interview with Chain News:

Which chain has the most stablecoin users?

Marek asked in his speech: "Which chain has the most stablecoin users?" The audience unanimously believed that the answer was Tron. After all, Tron has always provided cheap and fast stablecoin transfer services, and has the highest USDT circulation, about $61.1 billion.

However, the answer is not that. Tron’s status as the king of stable coins seems to be challenged. Marek showed the data of the data platform Artemis. It can be seen that the number of active addresses of Tron exceeded Tron for the first time on 9/13 this year.

However, the number of active addresses is only one of the data indicators. If the total amount of transfers is compared, Celo only ranks 11th among all blockchains. However, compared to the beginning of the year, Celo’s data has increased 26 times, which clearly shows Celo’s substantial growth in the stable currency field.

In addition, further looking at the amount of each transaction, we can see that all price ranges have steadily increased, indicating that Celo's activity is not caused by meaningless small transactions.

What drives Celo’s growth? Where do users mainly come from?

Regarding Celo’s amazing growth, Lian News also asked Marek what prompted the improvement in Celo’s data. He said that a large part of it is due to the development of applications on Celo, such as MiniPay.

MiniPay is a stablecoin wallet built into the Opera Mini browser. Its main features are:

  1. Users can quickly transfer assets through phone numbers without any fees

  2. Some stablecoins can be exchanged instantly at 1:1

  3. You can quickly create a wallet with your Google account, and your notes will be automatically stored on your phone.

After the author's actual use, the process of creating a wallet and transferring assets is very smooth. The features built into the Opera browser also greatly increase the speed of user inflow.

However, it should be noted that the Opera Mini browser is currently only available to Android users, and Marek expects an iOS version to be available by the end of this year.

As for where do Celo’s users mainly come from? Marek said they are mainly from Africa, such as Kenya, Ghana and South Africa. Since Opera is a very popular browser in Africa, it has naturally become the main source of users. In addition, Africa's financial inclusion is less complete than other regions, and a convenient and easy-to-use blockchain wallet has become an indispensable daily tool for local people.
