According to "The Block" report, Solana Mobile, the smartphone division of Solana blockchain development company Solana Labs, revealed the name of its second-generation blockchain mobile phone as "Solana Seeker" at "TOKEN2049" in Singapore on Thursday. Will be released in mid-2025.

Emmett Hollyer, general manager of Solana Mobile, said in an interview with "The Block" that the name "Seeker" was inspired by the late British writer and speaker Alan. A quote from Alan Watts that accurately conveys the essence of this device and its user. Hollyer added:

"The name Saga describes the story of bringing Web3 mobile devices on Solana to life, and Seeker is about what this device can achieve."

Solana Mobile's first mobile phone, Saga, was launched in May 2023. Although it successfully attracted widespread attention from the market, its initial sales were not ideal. However, airdrop rewards distributed to mobile phone users led to a surge in market demand for Saga phones.

In January this year, Solana’s second-generation mobile phone was opened for pre-order under the name “Chapter 2”, and the meme coin airdrop also stimulated demand for the new mobile phone. According to Solana Mobile, pre-orders have now topped 140,000 units in 57 countries. Hollyer said the Seeker, built in partnership with hardware company Fxtec, is expected to ship in mid-2025.

Solana Seeker Functionality

Solana Mobile said the community response to the Seeker phone has inspired other ecosystem teams to build dApps (decentralized applications), rewards and features for it ahead of launch.

Features of Solana Seeker include its Seed Vault Wallet, which is described as a cryptocurrency wallet designed specifically for mobile with native integration of the self-hosted Seed Vault built into Solana phones and developed in partnership with Solflare.

“Now you can send transactions in just two clicks and choose between main and burner modes for peace of mind, saving time and never having to worry about account management,” Hollyer said.

In addition to improved hardware specifications, the Seeker phone also includes a new version of Solana dApp Store, which improves applications for payments, DeFi (decentralized finance), DePIN (decentralized physical infrastructure), NFT, AI and games. discoverability.

The new phone will also feature the Genesis Token, a unique, soul-bound (non-transferable) NFT that unlocks exclusive third-party rewards, access, offers and content across the entire Solana ecosystem. Hollyer also said that the Chapter 2 Preorder Token will help keep rewards flowing ahead of Seeker’s launch.

In order to coincide with the Solana Breakpoint conference after TOKEN2049, Solana Mobile once again launched an "early founder" pre-order price of US$450. After the event ends on September 21, the price of Solana Seeker will return to US$500.
