As reported by Ekathimerini, citing informed sources in the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the authorities are unhappy that the country lacks transparent legislation in the field of taxation of cryptocurrencies. Investors, most of whom are technically unemployed, are taking advantage of this situation and are not declaring profits from transactions with digital assets, officials say.

The Ministry notes an increase in transactions with cryptocurrencies in 2024, especially among people aged 30 years and over who own real estate. And the country's capital, Athens, is seeing an increase in the number of events and meetings related to digital assets.

At the moment, the government is awaiting proposals from a specially created committee, which in September should provide a set of measures to improve tax legislation in the field of crypto-assets. The Ministry expects that the new tax system will attract additional funds to the budget and create fair operating conditions for participants in the local crypto-industry.
