🔔 Crypto exchange BitMEX admitted guilt for violating the US Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) by operating without an effective anti-money laundering (AML) program. From 2015 to 2020, BitMEX "willfully failed to establish, implement, or maintain" a proper AML program, leading to the charges.

According to the US attorney, BitMEX "neglected" AML requirements by failing to implement a Know Your Customer AML program. Instead, only an email address was required from users.

Those responsible on the exchange can receive up to five years in prison and a fine. In 2022, the court ordered the founders of BitMEX to pay a fine of $30 million.
