Polygon Labs on August 29, 2023 introduced its Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK), an open, modular code base that can be used to launch L2 chains backed by Polygon's ZK technology anywhere in the world.

The CDK is the evolution of Supernets, which gave projects the ability to operate sidechain-like application chain protocols. The CDK takes Supernet design to a new level, enabling easy deployment of interoperable, ZK-powered L2s.

Among the main features of the CDK are:

  • Modularity: The CDK is designed to be modular, allowing developers to customize their L2 chains to fit their specific needs.

  • Interoperability: The L2 chains created with the CDK will be interoperable with each other and will be able to access unified liquidity, both in the Polygon ecosystem and on Ethereum.

  • Efficiency: ZK-powered L2 chains are more efficient than L1 chains, making them ideal for applications requiring high speeds and low fees.

The CDK is available for download on GitHub. Polygon Labs hopes that the CDK will help accelerate L2 development in the Ethereum ecosystem.

Some of the advantages of the CDK include:

  • Reduces the time and effort required to create an L2 chain

  • Allows developers to customize their L2 chains

  • Facilitates interoperability between L2 chains

  • Offers greater performance and scalability

The CDK is an important development for the Ethereum ecosystem as it could help drive L2 growth.
