Taiwan's Central Bank President, Yang Jinlong, has emphasized that the development of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) is not a race, but a steady progress. In a recent report, Yang outlined the bank's plans for the digital New Taiwan Dollar, including experiments to enhance payment efficiency and innovation. The bank is also developing a CBDC prototype platform for retail payments, capable of processing 20,000 transactions per second. While no issuance date has been set, the bank is also exploring tokenization technology to digitally transform wholesale central bank currency and commercial bank currency.
