The Ethereum documentary "Vitalik: An Ethereum Story", which began filming and production three years ago, will finally be released this year. The documentary was originally titled Ethereum: Infinite Garden. The concept for the name originally came from the Ethereum Foundation, but since this was an independent film (not produced by the Ethereum Foundation), the team ultimately dropped the name. to avoid confusion among the community.
This Ethereum-themed documentary was independently produced by the film company Optimist, produced by Carrie Weprin, and co-directed by Zach Ingrasci and Chris Temple. Linda Xie, founder of Scalar Capital and former Coinbase product manager, also participated as an advisor. , the filming funds came from the 1,035.96 ETH raised from the community through Mirror in 2021.

The team introduced in today’s announcement:
"Vitalik: An Ethereum Story is our feature documentary about the humanity and heart behind technology. It's a film for community members, cryptocurrency curious and skeptics. We're the first to admit that this film can't Capturing the full story of Ethereum—an ecosystem too diverse and vast for a movie—but seeing the community through Vitalik’s eyes helps make the story approachable and human. "
The documentary will be released in five stages:
Phase 1: Trailer Release – Trailers will be available for casting on Zora on July 23rd, trailers can be cast an unlimited number of times, and each cast will help fund the release of the film. At the same time, the team will also hold a casting ranking event, and the top contributors will receive benefits such as participation in the documentary premiere, free tickets, and naming at the end of the film.
Phase 2: On-chain ticket pre-sale – Watch the movie on ethereumfilm.xyz on July 26 through the on-chain ticketing system provided by Base. In addition, the documentary will premiere live in 250+ locations around the world via Gathr’s decentralized, community-driven platform.
Phase 3: Global launch – September 18th on ethereumfilm.xyz giving ticket holders 30 days to watch the film. Bringing the global Ethereum community together with a live premiere on screens around the world.
Phase 4: Extended theatrical release – bringing the community together through live events and film screenings in fall 2024.
Phase 5: Mainstream Streaming Premiere – 2024/2025 winter movies will be available on traditional streaming platforms around the world (to be determined).
