According to TechFlow, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was released on Wednesday after pleading guilty to violating the U.S. Espionage Act, ending a 14-year legal dispute. Assange's brother Gabriel Shipton said that crypto donations from the AssangeDAO community saved Assange.

AssangeDAO raised approximately $53 million in ETH in 2022 to purchase token NFTs, with the proceeds donated to the Wau Holland Stiftung Foundation to cover Assange's legal fees and related expenses. This funding not only helped Assange launch an effective legal defense, but also accumulated political momentum through social media advertising and lobbying by his family.

The Assange family also received a bitcoin donation worth approximately $500,000 today to cover final travel and recovery expenses. AssangeDAO’s support enabled Assange to return to Australia to be reunited with his family following his guilty plea on Wednesday.
