According to Odaily, Jesse Pollak, head of the Base protocol, recently commented on the relationship between Base and Ethereum in a response to Solana co-founder Toly on X. Pollak emphasized that the connection between Base and Ethereum is not a zero-sum competition. He stated that Base and other Layer 2 (L2) solutions are essentially executing Ethereum's roadmap, a collaborative effort that has been ongoing for over five years. Pollak believes that as Base grows, Ethereum will also benefit.
Pollak acknowledged that the transaction acceptance rate on Ethereum's L2 will be lower than on Layer 1 (L1). However, he expressed skepticism that this acceptance rate will remain the same during what he described as potentially the greatest growth opportunity in human history. He expects the rate to increase, though it will still be below 100%. Pollak also agreed that increasing L1 capacity is beneficial.
He advocated for a collaborative approach, suggesting that building together is more rewarding and has a higher chance of success than competing in a zero-sum manner. Pollak recognized the usefulness of competition but stressed the importance of focusing on collective efforts across multiple layers to create the best possible version of Ethereum. His goal is to prevent competition from hindering progress, encouraging mutual support, and continuing to build on a solid foundation.
