Elon Musk posted a poll on his X account about whether America "should liberate the English people," as the debate between the billionaire and the British government intensified.

"Should America liberate the English people from their authoritarian government?" American tech billionaire Elon Musk posed the question to over 211 million followers in an online survey on social media X on January 5. Below, he provided two answers "yes" or "no" for users to choose.

Musk's post has now received nearly 1.9 million votes, with 57.8% voting "yes" and 42.2% voting "no."

The online poll conducted by Musk comes amid rising tensions between him and the British government, as the American billionaire has continuously posted criticisms of the ruling Labour Party in England as well as political issues in the country.

Musk also thinks it is "not a bad idea" if England were to become a state of the USA. The office of Prime Minister Keir Starmer has not yet commented on Musk's actions.

Prime Minister Starmer recently criticized "lies and misinformation" undermining democracy in England and defaming himself, after continuous attacks from Musk, the world's richest man and a top ally of President-elect Donald Trump.

Musk has recently been reported to be leveraging the influence of his social media to promote far-right movements in England and Germany. In recent days, Musk has continuously taken steps to support populist and anti-immigration politicians in these two European countries, where he has significant business investments.

The American billionaire called for early elections in England, attacking Prime Minister Starmer and voicing support for far-right politicians in England such as Tommy Robinson, who is serving an 18-month prison sentence for contempt of court and repeatedly making false allegations about a Syrian refugee.

Musk on January 5 stated that Nigel Farage, the founder of the Reform UK party with far-right views, is "not competent" and should be replaced. Previously, Musk had said that only Farage's party "could save England."

He also expressed support for politician Rupert Lowe to replace Farage as the new leader of the Reform UK party.

Farage appeared surprised by Musk's change of opinion about him, as the two previously had a good relationship. "Elon is excellent, but on this I must disagree. My view remains that Tommy Robinson is not suitable for the Reform party and I will never abandon my principles," Farage said.

Musk had previously strongly supported Farage, while the leader of the Reform UK party met with Musk last year to discuss various issues, including Musk considering funding $100 million for the far-right party to win the upcoming general election.
