As 2025 begins, investors are optimistic for a year of stronger gains. In fact, with a few exceptions, most of the altcoins trending today (2) have seen their prices increase over the past 24 hours.
According to CoinGecko, two of the top three altcoins, Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL) and Kekius Maximus (KEKIUS), saw impressive double-digit growth, while ai16z (AI16Z) bucked the trend with a decline. Here are the details.
Virtual Protocol (VIRTUAL)
Throughout the fourth quarter of last year, VIRTUAL was a constant presence on the trending list as one of the best-performing altcoins. Today, January 2, it continues to turn heads, rising 23.60% in the last 24 hours.
VIRTUAL’s sustained rise can be attributed to the growing interest in AI and gaming, which has propelled the altcoin to new heights. Following the price surge, VIRTUAL is now trading at $4.89.
On the daily chart, VIRTUAL continues to make higher highs, indicating notable demand for the altcoin. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) reading has also increased, indicating significant bullish momentum around the token.

If this trend continues, the altcoin’s value could rise to $6. However, if the demand for the Virtuals Protocol token drops, it could face a correction. In that case, the value could drop to $2.90.
Kekius Maximus (KEKIUS)
Unlike VIRTUAL, Kekius Maximus’ price has dropped 50% in the last 24 hours. However, that’s not the main reason why it’s among the trending altcoins today.
Previously, the Ethereum-based memecoin saw a surprising surge after Elon Musk changed his name on X to Kekius Maximus. However, yesterday, the Tesla CEO reverted to his original name, causing the memecoin’s market cap to drop by $300 million in an hour.
However, the 1-hour chart shows that the token has recovered some of these losses. If sustained, the value of KEKIUS could rise to $0.28 in the near term. On the other hand, if the bears take control of the price action, it could drop to $0.10.

ai16z (AI16Z)
Ai16z, a venture capital-backed token led by AI agents, has surged 20% in the last 24 hours, which is why it is trending. Additionally, the bullish sentiment around AI agent cryptos is another reason for it to be on the list.
At the time of writing, AI16Z is trading at $2.27. On the 4-hour chart, Bull Bear Power (BBP) remains in the positive region. This indicates that the bulls are in control of the altcoin’s direction.

If this remains the same, then the token’s value may rise to $3.50. However, if the bears gain the upper hand, the trend may change. In this case, AI16Z may drop to $1.73.
