Brazilian Congressman Julia Zanatta expressed concerns about the impact of the central bank digital currency (drex) on citizens' lives. She stated that if drex is improperly deployed, it could lead to the end of physical currency, and she suggested a vote on its final deployment.
Zanatta stated that she has planned to establish multiple backup measures to prevent this situation from occurring, helping Brazilians maintain their current economic freedom. She emphasized that the use of drex should be voluntary rather than mandatory, as it could become a tool for exerting control over Brazilians, and she called for public awareness of such issues, as these tools could be used to restrict personal freedom.
Zanatta believes that, since drex has not yet been approved for launch, she will propose a public vote to let citizens decide the future of the project, as such a significant change should at least be discussed in Congress. The pilot of drex is currently in the second phase and is facing delays due to a lack of effective implementation to protect the privacy of potential users. (Bitcoin.com)
