Odaily Planet Daily News: As China bans cryptocurrencies, crypto miners are looking for new locations with cheap energy and friendly regulations, and Africa is becoming a global focus. Ethiopia's newly commissioned "Grand Renaissance Dam" has brought huge power generation capacity to the country, and its electricity sales to the crypto mining field have also achieved unexpected success. The Ethiopian Electric Power Company said that currently 18% of its monthly sales come from Bitcoin mining, accounting for more than half of Ethiopia's total electricity exports to neighboring countries, compared with almost zero last year. Power companies such as Gridless are using Bitcoin mining to fund and maintain microgrids to provide cheap electricity to rural areas in Kenya, Malawi and Zambia. In addition, other African countries are also using crypto mining to advance energy infrastructure. (The Africa Report)
