EU steps up pressure on Apple to open up its iPhone features to rivals

The European Commission has pressed Apple to open up its iPhone operating system more widely to rivals, prompting the company to express concern over Meta’s requests that it says could negatively impact privacy.

The commission ordered Apple on Wednesday to revise its iOS operating system to make it more compatible with rival devices, headphones and other products.

In a document posted online, regulators said third-party iOS developers should be given more information on how to access iPhone features, as well as a dedicated contact person to handle such requests.
