Under tremendous pressure from within the party, the current US President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential election in the early hours of this morning, and expressed his full support for Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic presidential candidate in 2024. Kamala Harris then also said that she would actively seek support from within the party to win the nomination.

According to the Democratic Party's regulations, the party delegates won by Biden in the primary election cannot be directly transferred to Kamala Harris, but will be decided by nearly 4,000 party delegates. The Democratic Party may hold it online as early as early August. Kamala Harris has earlier publicly called on party delegates to announce their support for her before the National Convention.

Other candidates who have been named include Illinois Governor JBPritzker, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, but AFP pointed out that their opportunities have been quite limited so far.
