[Polkadot creator Gavin Wood says a blockchain application is crucial for mass adoption]

Gavin Wood, the creator of Polkadot (DOT), the blockchain that creates interoperability, said identity verification is a key application for blockchain’s widespread acceptance.

In the podcast of general economics guru Raoul Pal, Wood believes that the blockchain currently mainly masters the transmission of value, such as money, but has not yet mastered the concept of human nature, which is crucial in daily life.

He points out that in Western societies, identification is common and required. For example, when purchasing expensive goods, merchants will confirm the identity of the customer. But he warned we should not rely on the government to verify identity.

“We naturally rely on seeing faces to conduct many transactions. The fabric of our society relies on proof of identity, so before blockchain can become a significant part of society, it needs to include identity verification.”

He emphasized that blockchain should avoid relying on governments or devices to confirm identities, such as his skepticism of Worldcoin’s device and his opposition to KYC passport methods. He believes that these methods are too dependent on government and are not suitable for driving blockchain.

“We need to come up with more innovative ways to integrate humanity into the blockchain.”
