Bitcoin ecosystem developer Andreas Kohl stated that he successfully incapacitated 69% of the Dogecoin network by exploiting a vulnerability discovered by another developer, Tobias Ruck; and he did this in rural El Salvador using only an old Lenovo computer. Andreas Kohl shared his findings online and noted that centralized exchanges and most custodians were not affected, and this only impacted the majority of nodes that had not been updated. Moreover, Dogecoin users were largely unaware of this issue, as not many were engaging in self-custody.

Although the number of Dogecoin network nodes once dropped from over 600 to just over 200, some in the community believe that since there was no impact, Kohl might be talking nonsense.

From the price of DOGE, this cybersecurity incident did not impact the market. Perhaps as the progenitor of meme coins, its community does not focus on broader cybersecurity issues. More importantly, it is about its cultural content. In fact, the Dogecoin network was not affected by security issues.
