An anonymous researcher from the NFT project Azuki, Waleswoosh, shared a screenshot on December 14 showing that the NFT platform OpenSea has registered a foundation in the Cayman Islands. This sparked discussions among some members of the NFT community, who speculated that the platform might plan to issue its own tokens and conduct a token airdrop.

OpenSea co-founder and CEO Devin Finzer announced in November that the NFT marketplace is planning a comeback. Although Finzer did not reveal many details, he promised that a brand new platform would be launched in December. Some users speculated at the time that OpenSea might conduct an airdrop, but others held different views. DappRadar's communications manager 'nederob' believes that the likelihood of an airdrop is low because OpenSea's headquarters is located in the United States.

After news about the OpenSea Foundation was released, 'Golem', the community manager of ZKsync developer Matter Labs, expressed hope that OpenSea would give back to its early users and believes the platform has a chance to turn the situation around. Some users are also concerned whether OpenSea's potential token airdrop will take into account transactions from 2021 and 2022, when the NFT market experienced billions of dollars in sales. A user on platform X, @WawKasem, speculated that the platform might follow the practices of competitors like Blur and Magic Eden by issuing tokens to incentivize and reward users.

Revival of the NFT Market

After the pro-cryptocurrency Trump won the presidential election and the NFT project 'Pudgy Penguins' announced plans to issue tokens, the overall NFT market saw a recovery in trading, with November's NFT sales reaching a six-month high. According to data from CoinGecko, Pudgy Penguins NFTs have seen the most price increase recently, with their floor price rising about 264% in the past month to 34.8 ETH (approximately $137,946). Major NFT series, including Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), also experienced significant increases.

According to data from nftpulse, Blur is currently the highest-grossing NFT platform, followed by OpenSea and Magic Eden. However, in terms of unique users, the three most used platforms are Magic Eden, OpenSea, and Tensor, in that order.
