The hardest hit cryptocurrency was Terra (LUNA), which suffered a collapse due to the Terra protocol's algorithmic stablecoin called TerraUSD (UST) losing its peg to the US dollar.
On April 5, 2022, the LUNA coin reached a historical maximum price of $119.18, and on May 13 it fell to a minimum of $0.000000999967, losing 100% of its value. At the time of writing, January 30, 2023, the LUNA token was trading at $0.0001692, over the past 24 hours it has fallen in price by about 3%. LUNA's capitalization today is $1.012 billion. Before the crash, the coin was among the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization; today LUNA ranks 50th on this list. It is now traded on exchanges under the new ticker Terra Classic (LUNC). The UST stablecoin ticker has also changed - it is now called TerraClassicUSD (USTC).
The fact is that the developers decided to restart the Terra blockchain in order to create a new ecosystem from scratch and regain the trust of users. The Terra 2.0 mainnet launched on May 28, 2022.
Holders of LUNA and UST tokens were to be compensated for their losses through the distribution of a native token of the new blockchain under the original name LUNA. The new LUNA is available for trading on exchanges; the cost of the coin at the time of writing was $2.06.
However, the short-term forecast for Terra (LUNA) from CoinCodex suggests that the token price will rise by 6.78% to $2.2 by February 4, 2023.
Analytics service Wallet Investor claims that the new LUNA could be an “excellent long-term investment” (for 1 year). According to the resource’s forecast, the average price of a coin could reach $80,354 by the end of 2023, and rise to $142.33 by the end of 2025
