Donald Trump announced that billionaire Elon Musk will lead the new U.S. government Department of Efficiency (D.O.G.E). When the necessity of the department’s existence was questioned, Musk responded that the United States was saved by a squirrel and meme coins, stimulating the PNUT token to surge more than 277%, becoming a newly emerging meme coin. The old Dogecoin also rose above $0.4.
Ashley St. Clair, a well-known Twitter influencer, wrote: "If it is not designed for entertainment, then please explain how we created a department dedicated to firing half of the government by posting spam, this department is called DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, during the Trump presidency."
Musk, who is regarded as the "father of Dogecoin", responded personally: "A squirrel and a meme coin saved America."
Not only that, Musk also cited a six-year-old meme to highlight how the death of pet squirrel "Peanut" could change the course of the 2024 US election.
“The prophecy has been fulfilled,” he wrote.
This was in response to an old post on Reddit, a well-known American social platform, titled "In your darkest hour, the squirrel comes", which depicts a squirrel wearing an armored shield, portraying it as the savior of mankind.
Musk was referencing the late social media pet squirrel Peanut, whose death became a major flashpoint ahead of the presidential election.
Most Trump supporters, including Musk, used the animal's death to blame New York state officials who confiscated and euthanized Peanut because of possible rabies exposure.
"President Trump will save these squirrels," Musk said in a condolence note to the squirrel.
After the news came out, Dogecoin rose sharply, breaking through $0.4 at one point, setting an important milestone.
But what is even more striking is the rapid rise of the Peanut the Squirrel (PNUT) meme coin, with a single-day increase of more than 277%, becoming the key winner of this conversation and highlighting Musk's current influence on the market.
Musk previously released the logo of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency, which is a Shiba Inu with the words "Department of Government Efficiency" and posted a message saying: "Making Government Fun Again."
