During the period of #BinanceBlockchainWeek , I happened to listen to a panel related to the BTC ecosystem, where the founder of CKB shared insights and perspectives on the BTC ecosystem. Before understanding CKB, we can first look at the 'Battle of Bitcoin Block Size':
As early as between 2015 and 2017, there was a debate in the BTC community regarding the block size of the Bitcoin blockchain, which split the Bitcoin crypto community into two camps. The 'large block advocates' wanted to increase the block size to achieve cheaper and faster transactions, while the 'small block advocates' wanted to permanently maintain the 1 MB limit to prioritize the integrity and security of Bitcoin.
Due to the 1MB block capacity being the Achilles' heel of Bitcoin, how to support large-scale applications on the BTC ecosystem has become a top priority. Currently, Layer 2 (L2) seems to be the best solution, and the categories of Bitcoin L2 solutions roughly include state channels (like Lightning Network), sidechains (like Liquid, Merlin), Rollups (like Rollkit), and client verification (like RGB, RGB++, Taro).
Considering the current market enthusiasm and trends, we might temporarily categorize the current Bitcoin L2 queue into two types:
The 'EVM camp' led by Merlin and B² is engaged in a fierce competition for staked TVL, trying to seize the early time window of the Bitcoin ecosystem to capture market share with first-mover advantage.
On the other hand, the 'UTXO camp' led by CKB is leveraging its complete isomorphism with $BTC BTC (based on PoW+UTXO) and more recognized expansion protocols like RGB within the Bitcoin community, thus occupying a high ground of technical advantage, able to bring cross-chain capabilities and Turing-complete contracts to Bitcoin without sacrificing security, along with contract extension and performance extension.
Although CKB may be seen as an 'outlier' in the eyes of most people, in the context where Ethereum has chosen PoS, CKB surprisingly opts for the Bitcoin public chain technology route: PoW+UTXO. Therefore, after going online, its price has remained relatively lukewarm. However, due to its technical advantages, $CKB is still expected to become an important part of the Bitcoin ecosystem. After all, the current narrative of Bitcoin L2 does not appear to be a fleeting bubble within a single cycle, but rather the beginning of the expansion of the Bitcoin network ecosystem. #CKB助力比特币生态
