The Samurai Shodown saga gets a new chapter with the latest version of the gaming title being developed for Sui and the SuiPlay0X1 mobile gaming device by SNK and Lumiwave. Samurai Shodown R takes the franchise into the Web3 era, leveraging Sui's dynamic and ownable assets to give players a greatly enhanced experience.
The original game came out in 1993, launching in arcades and helping to debut a generation of consoles, including Neo Geo, Game Boy, and Playstation. Samurai Shodown R will include versions for Android, iOS, and SuiPlay0X1.

As a mobile MMORPG, Samurai Shodown R combines player-versus-player fighting with character personalization through skills and items. Followers of the franchise will experience the gameplay they know and love, and new features enabled by Sui.
In-game items exist as dynamic NFTs on Sui, becoming more powerful as the character wins battles and gains achievements. And unlike on other blockchains, where evolving an NFT would require reminting and network consensus, Sui's cutting edge technology means these NFT-based items update on the fly, immediately reflecting the character's progress.
Samurai Shodown R also leverages Sui's closed loop tokens as an in-game currency, fostering community and a clan system. And players won't need to be Web3 experts, as they can easily use their existing credentials from services such as Google or Facebook to login, a capability made possible by zkLogin.
Lumiwave gave attendees of the recent Sui Builder House in Singapore a sneak peek at the game, and expect its public release in 2025.
