ChainCatcher reported that during an official visit to Argentina, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele met with Argentine Vice President Victoria Villarruel to discuss cryptocurrencies and El Salvador’s experience with Bitcoin.

Argentine senators and top government officials are very interested in Bitcoin. During an official visit to Argentina, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele met with a group of national senators and Argentina’s vice president to discuss the topic of cryptocurrency.

While the discussion was private, a video from before the meeting showed Argentina’s Vice President Victoria Villarruel asking about El Salvador’s experience with bitcoin, which has been used as legal tender for several years.

“I personally wanted to use these few minutes to talk to you about Bitcoin, which is something I’m very passionate about,” Villarruel said.

Additionally, Villarruel has shown interest in so-called volcano bonds, which have been on the back burner for several years. Bukele proposed these bonds as part of a plan to finance Bitcoin City, a Bitcoin-centric metropolis that was announced in 2021 but has yet to be built.
