What is Solana Mobile Saga?

On June 23, 2023, Solana Mobile Saga was launched as a "mobile device for the Web3 era". Solana Mobile Saga provides Web3 features such as secure self-custody by protecting private keys with secure hardware, allowing users to sign transactions using only fingerprints in a familiar mobile Android 13 operating system environment.

The Solana Mobile Saga sold out in the US by the end of 2023, thanks to the phone’s unique combination of Web3 functionality and Web2 familiarity, addressing the market pain point of poor user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) for mobile decentralized applications (dApps).

The success of Solana Mobile Saga has spurred the launch of other Web3 smartphones focused on gamification, decentralized identity, and the Metaverse.

  • JamboPhone: JamboPhone comes pre-installed with the JamboApp, which provides access to gamified tasks through Tap-to-Earn (T2E) games in the Jambo ecosystem. The smartphone allows users to securely manage digital assets using the integrated OKX non-custodial wallet, which supports more than 200,000 currencies across 90 networks.

  • Nothing Phone: Developed by Nothing smartphone company in partnership with Polygon, the Nothing Phone integrates Polygon ID, a decentralized identity system that uses zero-knowledge cryptography to verify user identity without sharing personal data, allowing privacy-preserving access to dApps on the Polygon network.

  • HTC Desire 22 Pro: The HTC Desire 22 Pro is equipped with virtual reality (VR) capabilities and access to the VIVERSE Metaverse ecosystem. This smartphone supports non-fungible tokens (NFTs), cryptocurrencies, and digital asset storage using the Vive Wallet. Users can connect to VIVERSE and stream content directly to the VIVE Flow headset, integrating the Metaverse experience with blockchain technology.

Led by Solana, the "Web3 era for mobile" has indeed arrived.

How Solana is pioneering mobile-first Web3 design principles

Solana is leading the way in mobile-first Web3 development with its Solana Mobile Stack (SMS), which provides developers with the resources they need to build mobile-native dApps and wallets. The key components of SMS include:

  • SMS SDKs: Streamline development with tools for building and deploying dApps and wallets.

  • Mobile Wallet Adapter: Allows advanced transaction signing for mobile dApps and wallets.

  • Mobile native capabilities: Combine push notifications, cameras, GPS trackers, and biometric sensors.

  • React Native: Supports rapid deployment of web-based dApps and wallets to mobile platforms.

  • Seed Vault: Encrypted torrents are protected by secure hardware using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption to prevent unauthorized access.

The SMS powers the Solana Saga smartphone and its successor, the Solana Seeker, which launched on September 19, 2024 at TOKEN2049 in Singapore as the “definitive Web3 mobile device” that natively integrates with a hardware seed vault that connects to a non-custodial Solflare wallet to securely store and spend crypto on the Solana dApp Store 2.0.

Solana Seekers can also use their smartphones to generate a unique, non-transferable Seeker Genesis Token to unlock exclusive content and rewards in the Solana ecosystem.

How does Web3Auth support mobile-first developers building DApps for Solana Seeker?

Web3Auth supports mobile-first developers building dApps for Solana Seeker through our Solana Mobile SDK and tools that simplify Web3 authentication and wallet integration. Web3Auth’s Solana-powered native mobile SDKs include our Core Suite Mobile SDK and Plug and Play (PnP) Mobile SDK.

Core Kit Mobile SDK

  • Target Use: Designed for Solana Seeker developers who want to integrate the Web3Auth key management library directly into their mobile dApps, providing more control over how Web3 features such as authentication and key management are implemented.

  • Features: Supports both single-factor authentication (SFA) and multi-factor authentication (MFA), Solana Seeker developers can choose to implement SFA to simplify the experience, or implement MFA to enhance the security of their mobile dApps.

  • Supported platforms: Android, React Native, and Flutter.

PnP Mobile SDK

  • Target Use: Focused on providing a ready-to-use solution that can be quickly integrated, allowing Solana Seeker developers to implement a secure wallet service for their mobile dApps with minimal setup.

  • Features: Designed for rapid deployment with little to no customization, Solana Seeker developers can integrate pre-built authentication and wallet management services into their mobile apps to speed up the development process.

  • Supported platforms: Android, React Native, and Flutter.

In summary, the Core Kit SDK is a good fit for Solana Seeker developers who need a high degree of customization and control over the authentication and wallet management processes for their mobile dApp, while the PnP SDK is a good fit for Solana Seeker developers who are looking for a quick and direct solution to integrate Web3 wallet functionality into their mobile dApp without deep customization.
