According to TechFlow, ZKsync announced its shift to an "elastic chain" architecture, transforming ZKsync from a single ZK rollup chain to multiple ZK chain networks with native interoperability. This is part of the ZKsync 3.0 roadmap.

The change includes refactoring the native bridge into a token repository to improve connectivity between ZK chains.

The elastic chain architecture is designed to achieve seamless operation, with transactions only requiring confirmation from a single wallet, without the need to switch networks or manually bridge assets. The network starts with ZKsync Era and will include more than 20 chains in the future, developed using the ZK Stack toolkit, with plans to launch the mainnet by the end of 2024.
